Exactly a year prior, we lived in the southwestern tip of Ireland, in a tiny cottage enveloped by big green hills that rolled into the North Atlantic. With a single, small fireplace as the only source of heat and no transportation. We set out to find a place equally as remote in the US.
Our cabin in North Carolina took all the best parts of our Irish experience and added modern conveniences. We had central heat, a gas fireplace, hot water and my car to get around. Even the internet was fast. And yet we were still in the middle of the Nantahala National Forest.
Going into town required carefully hugging the winding road along the Nantahala river and through the mountains. Sometimes, we'd just drive in the beautiful autumn scenery with nowhere to be.
While we devoured wings at the local pub, we happened to catch Auburn's incredible, final play during the Iron Bowl.
It wasn't until we got home and heard Rod Bramblett's infectious play-by-play that we were really ignited with the same enthusiasm. That play was epic.
Taylor filmed me doing a quick lip-dub and we uploaded it. Little did we know it'd go viral, and was even broadcast on Fox Sports and ESPN that week!
Kaitlyn tasted her first snow while impatiently roasting our juicy turkey and marinating our cranberries with maple syrup. It was our second Thanksgiving feast together.
