Took a train to paradise this evening. Our train broke down about 5 times, taking an extra 5 hours to get there but when this is your destination, how can we be grumpy?

Manarola is one of the most beautiful places in the world. This dream town is used to promote everything from book covers to ads for Fuji cameras and Dawn dish soap.

Rome, Italy

We spent our few days in Rome exploring the Coliseum, the spanish steps, the Trevi Fountain and Vatican City.

We took a short train ride out of Rome to spend the day playing the ponies. The highlight was hearing an ecstatic gambler scream, "Congratulazioni Super Mario!" at a jockey walking by.

Bergamo, Italy

After a stressful day missing our flight to Dublin, we made the best of it by booking a suite at the Cecesimo BNB. Over a single autumn evening we fell in love with old Bergamo.

A kind, old woman ran the town's candy shop. A framed photo of her late husband hung behind the register and she smiled as she bagged our candy. At a nearby bar, we drank Italian beer and pecked at a buffet of charcuterie & olives. And in the morning we successfully caught our flight to Ireland.

My giant red suitcase exceeded RyanAir's weight limit and the overage fee was more than the cost of our tickets. I layered 5 sweaters on and threw away nearly all of my books. It was this emotional moment that I accepted traveling light as gospel.
